(1) Adsorption

When the fiber is put into the dye solution, the dye in the dye solution will gradually diffuse and transfer to the surface of the fiber, a process called adsorption. Adsorption is reversible. Due to the change of dye concentration in the dye liquor, the dye that has been dyed on the fiber will re-diffuse into the dye bath. This process is called desorption. During the dyeing process, adsorption and desorption coexist and maintain equilibrium.

(2) Diffusion

Since the dye is adsorbed on the surface of the fiber, the dye concentration difference is formed inside and outside the fiber, thus promoting the diffusion of the dye from the fiber to the inside. At this time, the dye in the solution continues to adsorb to the fiber surface until the adsorption and desorption reach equilibrium again.

(3) Fixation

The process by which the dye diffused into the fiber binds to the fiber is called fixation. The fixation method varies with the type of dye and fiber. In the dyeing process, these stages are both different and related to each other and cannot be completely separated.
