(1) Adsorption
When the fiber is put into the dye solution, the dye in the dye solution will gradually diffuse and transfer to the fiber surface, which is called adsorption. The adsorption is reversible. Due to the change of dye concentration in the dye solution, the dye already dyed on the fiber will diffuse to the dye bath again. This process is called desorption. In the dyeing process, adsorption and desorption coexist and maintain balance.
(2) Diffusion
Because the dye is adsorbed on the fiber surface, a difference in dye concentration is formed inside and outside the fiber, thus promoting the dye to diffuse from the fiber to its interior. At this time, the dye in the solution continues to be adsorbed on the fiber surface until the adsorption and desorption reach equilibrium again.
(3) Fixation
The process of the combination of dye and fiber that diffuses into the fiber is called fixation. Fixation methods vary according to the types of dyes and fibers. In the dyeing process, these stages are both different and related to each other, and cannot be completely separated.
